Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at their homeground Eden Gardens on April 14. KKR's English opener Phil Salt starred with an unbeaten 89 in the run chase and helped the home side get over the line with 26 balls to spare. After the match, KKR team co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan visited the team’s dressing room. He made a request to senior and international players as they maintained their second position on the points table and boosted the net run rate (NRR) further.

“It's always good to see when we are playing like a unit. And my request to everybody, the senior players, and the international players, you have a lot of young kids in the team. Take them along. Let them know about your experience. Make sure they grow into great cricketers. Like all the senior and international players are. All the young kids, thank you so much,” said the 58-year-old.

Salt credits coaching staff

Salt was named ‘Player of the match’ for his IPL career-best 89 which from 47 balls was laced with 10 fours and three sixes.

“Said to Swanny before the game, I felt I was melting. Good to get another win home. Before the lights came on, it was a bit slower. After lights came on, there was some moisture and it quickened up,” Salt said in the post-match presentation.

The wicketkeeper-batter lauded KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir as he said, “Got some great overseas players, some great coaches. GG is back in the fold which is great.”

Iyer content with perfect display

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer was ecstatic after his team's fourth win of the tournament as they made short work of 162-run target. He contributed with a run-a-ball 38 in the unbeaten 120-run partnership for the third wicket.

“Pretty much comprehensive victory. Fielded well and bowled well. Was important to bowl slower ones as much as possible because of the heat and the wicket becoming dry. We executed phenomenally well. When we got wickets, it gave us the advantage to come in and put an attacking effort. Character and attitude bowlers showed was exceptional,” Iyer said.

“Will keep reiterating that it's a funny tournament and have to stay in the present as much as possible. Have to seize the moment and not leave it on someone else,” he added.
