The in-form Travis Head got an early reprieve from the umpire and Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan. Facing the first delivery of the match from Kagiso Rabada, Head was squared up by the brilliant delivery. There was a faint edge off Head’s bat before the ball went into Jitesh Sharma’s gloves. The wicketkeeper went up straight away and Rabada appealed as well. Not convinced by his teammates’ appeal, Dhawan decided not to opt for DRS.

However, the replays showed that there was a spike on the ultraedge when the ball passed the bat. Had Dhawan referred the decision, Head would have departed for a golden duck, his first of the season.

Rabada continued to trouble Rabada with the new ball. The Australian opener managed to get a boundary via a thick edge which went over the slip fielder. In his next over, head smashed the South African pacer for three consecutive fours. Rabada ended up conceding 16 runs in the over.

Arshdeep Singh put an end to Head's stay at the crease. The left-handed batter went down the track but miscued the shot. Dhawan went back running from mid-off and took an excellent catch to make up for his mistake early on in the innings. The SRH opener scored 21 runs from 15 balls. In the same over, Arshdeep dismissed Aiden Markram for a two-ball duck.

Dhawan opts to bowl

Earlier, Dhawan won the toss and opted to bowl first at PBKS’ homeground. Both Dhawan and Pat Cummins did not make any changes to their side. However, SRH had to bring in Rahul Tripathi as their impact player after Sam Curran got rid of in-form Abhishek Sharma in the fifth over.
