Shubman Gill fined a whopping Rs 12 lakh, faces the likelihood of getting banned moving forward; know details

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was heavily penalised after the team maintained a slow over rate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 27 (Wednesday). With it being the first offence of the season from the Gujarat Titans, their skipper Gill was imposed with a Rs 12 lakh fine under the IPL's code of conduct. Moving forward, Gill and Gujarat Titans need to be careful with their over rates as a couple more offences will lead to Gill's suspension from a match.


"Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the IPL said in a release.

What happened in the match between CSK and GT?

In the seventh match of the ongoing edition of the cash-rich tournament, the Chennai Super Kings registered a commanding 63-run victory over the Gujarat Titans. Batting first, the Super Kings posted a score of 206/6 on the board after Shivam Dube scored a whirlwind half-century.

In their run chase, Gujarat Titans failed to infuse any sort of momentum into their innings and ended up losing the game by 63 runs. The heavy margin of defeat dented the Titans' Net Run Rate (NRR) while it boosted CSK's NRR.
It was CSK's second successive win of the season while the Titans suffered their first defeat after they had started their campaign with a win. The Super Kings occupy the top position on the points table.
