Indian pacer with 284 first-class wickets set to join Karun Nair in this County side, intends to 'help teammates win in any situation in the match'

The 33-year-old Punjab-born pacer Siddarth Kaul will have a short stint with Northamptonshire in the ongoing County Championship Division Two 2024.

Indian pacer, Siddarth Kaul, who made his last international appearance in 2019, is set to play for Northamptonshire in the ongoing County Championship Division Two 2024. Kaul will play the next three matches for Luke Procter-led Northamptonshire side which also features Karun Nair.
 

The 33-year-old has played three T20Is and as many ODIs for India He also made two appearances against England at Trent Bridge and Lord's but remained wicketless. He was in decent form in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season claiming 15 wickets. 
 

Kaul will replace Australian pacer Chris Tremain in the side. Tremain joined Northamptonshire for a short stint of four games. 
 

"I'm very happy to be here to represent Northamptonshire and very excited to help the team win games and push for promotion," Kaul said.
 

"I'm confident that I will bring my positive mindset and experience to help my teammates win in any situation in the match."
 

Northamptonshire head coach Josh Sadler is happy to get the services of Punjab bowler. 
 

"Sid has a lot of experience with the ball, he's played a lot of first-class cricket and is keen to make a big impact when he joins the squad.
 

"He's finished his domestic season over in India where he picked up some good form so hopefully he continues that on with us."

 

Kaul's career in numbers

The veteran pacer has 284 wickets in first-class cricket from 83 games. He has 16 five-wicket hauls to his name. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has represented four franchises -- Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He made his IPL debut in 2013 and made his last appearance in the cash-rich league in 2021. He has 58 wickets from 54 games at an average of 29.24.

When will make Kaul make his Northamptonshire debut?

He is likely to be available for Northamptonshire's clash against Gloucestershire at home on May 10. Their next game is against Derbyshire starting May 17.
 

Northamptonshire are currently placed seventh on the points table as they are yet to register a win. Their first four games ended in a draw.
