Smriti Mandhana rises to third spot in ICC women's ODI rankings, will have to wait till December to climb further
Smriti Mandhana is India's top-ranked batter in ICC Women's batter rankings in white-ball formats. She benefited from Chamari Athapaththu slipping one place.
India's swashbuckling opener Smriti Mandhana climbed one position to occupy the third place in ICC's ODI batter rankings for women. As Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu registered low scores in first two ODIs of the recently concluded three-ODI series against Ireland, she slipped one spot to fourth with 727 rating points.
Mandhana has 738 rating points and will need to continue her good form in the format to get closer to first-ranked, England's Natalie Sciver-Brunt (783 rating points) and South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt (755 rating points). However, Mandhana will have to wait till December to have a chance to rise to the top spot. India don’t have an ODI series scheduled until their tour of Australia in December.
After featuring in the The Hundred, a few Indian players will be in action in Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). It will be followed by T20 World Cup warm-up matches starting in last week of September. The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 will commence on October 3.
There were no other changes in top batter rankings. The only other Indian in the top 10 is captain Harmanpreet Kaur at ninth position with 658 rating points. Ireland captain Gaby Lewis slipped one place to 16th and Australia's Ashleigh Gardner took her place.
Rodrigues slips
Ireland's Orla Prendergast and Leah Paul were rewarded for their performances. Orla climbed nine places to 28th whereas Leah jumped four positions to 29th. Ireland's Amy Hunter was another who made big gains rising to the 10th spot. As a result, India's Jemimah Rodrigues and Australia's Tahlia McGrath slipped three places each to 33rd and 34th respectively.
Mandhana holds her spot in T20Is
In the T20I batter rankings, there were no changes in top 10. Mandhana held the fourth spot with 743 rating points. In the upcoming T20 World Cup, she will have a chance to rise up to top spot which is occupied by Australia's Beth Mooney with 769 rating points followed by McGrath (762 rating points) and West Indies' Hayley Matthews (746 rating points).
As Sri Lanka's Harshitha Samarawickrama climbed three spots to 13th, Bangladesh's Nigar Sultana, South Africa's Anneke Bosch and Harmanpreet slipped one place each to 15th, 16th and 17th respectively.
