In the aftermath of the Ranchi Test, where young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel showcased remarkable talent and helped India secure series win against England, comparisons between him and legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni began to surface. Despite the rising chatter, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has voiced his thoughts, advising caution against drawing parallels too soon between Jurel and Dhoni.

Ganguly puts things into perspective

While acknowledging the emerging talent of Jurel, Ganguly emphasised the unique legacy of Dhoni, stating in an interview with RevSportz, "Dhoni is in a different league altogether."

Ganguly, who also served as the BCCI President, reflected on the extensive journey and achievements of Dhoni, suggesting that Jurel should be given space and time to develop his career without the pressure of being likened to one of cricket's greats.

"Dhruv Jurel... what a Test match he had under pressure on a difficult wicket. There is huge talent and if you miss you and you go back down in the ladder, it will be very hard to come back. MS Dhoni is in a different league," said Ganguly.

"Jurel has talent; there's no doubt about it. But it took MS Dhoni 20 years to be MS Dhoni. Rather 15 years for Dhoni to be Dhoni. So let him [Jurel] play. Jurel's ability to play spin, pace and most importantly to perform under pressure. That's what you look for in a youngster," he added.

Dhruv Jurel announces his arrival in style

Dhruv Jurel, stepping into the team during the Rajkot Test, quickly left an indelible mark with his performance both with the bat and behind the stumps. In his debut innings, he scored a commendable 46, followed by a rescue act in Ranchi that was pivotal for India. Facing a challenging situation, Jurel scored 90 in the first innings and remained unbeaten at 39, leading India to a 5-wicket victory in the match and clinching the series 3-1 against England.

The comparisons began when cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar noted Jurel's performance as reminiscent of Dhoni's early days, dubbing him the second coming of the former Indian skipper. However, Ganguly's words bring a perspective that highlights the importance of allowing Jurel to carve his own path in the cricketing world, respecting the unique contributions and monumental legacy of MS Dhoni.
