20-year-old Nitish Reddy has been the find of the season for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Reddy has been very handy with the bat and chipped in with a few overs as well. The young match-winner on May 16 became the most expensive player in the history of Andhra Pradesh League (APPL) auction.

Reddy who was roped in by SRH for his base price for Rs 20 lakh, was picked by Marlin Godavari Titans for Rs 15.66 lakh. A video of Reddy watching the APL auction in his hotel room in Hyderabad has gone viral on social media. He was excited to create history in the T20 league.

The third edition of APL will begin on June 30 and the final will be played on July 13. There will be a total of 19 matches played in the six-team tournament. More than 400 players had registered for the auction. KS Bharat, Ricky Bhui and Shaik Rasheed will also be a part of the tournament.

Reddy’s IPL numbers so far

So far, Reddy has played nine matches and scored 239 runs at an average of 47.80 including two half-centuries. His strike rate is 152.23. With the ball, he has bagged three wickets from 9.1 overs. His economy rate is 9.38 runs per over.

He scored his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) last month after top-order departed early. He scored 64 runs from 37 balls including four fours and five sixes. He also bagged a wicket in SRH's narrow two-run win in Mullanpur.

Later in the season, he registered his IPL career-best of 42-ball 76 which was laced with three fours and eight sixes. SRH won the game by just one run.

Chance to finish in top two

Before the clash against Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans (GT), the Pat Cummins-led side was placed fourth on the points table with seven wins from 12 games. A win will cement their place in the IPL 2024 playoffs. However, they need a win to cement their place in the top two and get a direct entry into Qualifier 1 against Shreyas Iyer's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
