During the 17th over of the KKR innings, Andre Russell unleashed a powerful shot against Mustafizur Rahman. The ball took a sharp edge, flying towards Dhoni behind the stumps at the packed Chepauk Stadium. In a valiant attempt, Dhoni dived to his right, making glove contact, but unfortunately, couldn't hold onto the catch, offering Russell a lifeline.
Despite the missed opportunity, the spirit of cricket shone through. Following the dropped catch, Russell displayed true sportsmanship. KKR were restricted to a below-par 137/9 in their 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer top-scored for them with 34 runs. CSK bowlers Ravindra Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande, and Mustafizur Rahman shared the spoils with three wickets each.
Chasing a modest target, CSK cruised to victory in the 18th over. Their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, remained unbeaten on 67, guiding his team to a comfortable 7-wicket win. CSK will take on Mumbai Indians on April 14th at Wankhede Stadium, while KKR will host Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens on the same day. Despite the loss, KKR remains at the second position in the IPL 2024 points table with six points. CSK, with the same points, climbs to the fourth spot.
