The future of MS Dhoni, both on and off the cricket pitch, has become a hot topic of discussion again after his cryptic Facebook post. Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) recent elimination from the IPL 2024 has been overshadowed by speculation surrounding Dhoni's retirement. Last season, Dhoni hinted at playing one more year for his fans. However, with the season's conclusion, an official announcement regarding his retirement is still awaited. Reports suggest Dhoni might make a decision soon after undergoing knee treatment in London.
Adding to the intrigue, Dhoni's Facebook post on Wednesday, May 22, sparked further speculation. The cryptic message hinted at a potential new venture, with some fans even questioning if he might be launching a new IPL team. While the details remain unclear, Dhoni's next move, be it on the field or off it, is sure to generate significant interest.
"Time to leap. It's time to do what matters! I'm starting my own team," Dhoni's Facebook post read.
The speculation reached a fever pitch when Dhoni's former teammates, Suresh Raina and Irfan Pathan, joined the social media frenzy. Both Raina and Pathan shared Dhoni's post on their accounts, along with congratulatory messages and cryptic captions that further fueled the rumors. This online activity left fans and analysts with even more questions about Dhoni's mysterious "new team."
Irfan Pathan stated: "You thought retirement, he said new team."
Suresh Raina stated: "All the best MS Dhoni bhai for your new team. Can't wait to know more."
Dhoni's future remains shrouded in mystery, with retirement rumors swirling after Chennai Super Kings' IPL 2024 exit. However, reliable sources from CSK suggest Dhoni's immediate focus is on recovering from a muscle tear. Reportedly, Dhoni may travel to London for for his muscle tear.
Recently, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan talking about Dhoni's future in IPL, told Indian Express that there is no such discussions in the dressing room about it.
“There were no discussions in the dressing room about it. We have never asked him about his future and neither has he said anything about it. When he takes a decision, he will inform us, until then we will not interfere," CSK CEO had said.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan opened up on MS Dhoni's future with the franchise in the upcoming season of the tournament. He is hopeful that former CSK skipper will be with the franchise for the upcoming year as well.
"(What is his future). I do not know. It's a question which only MS can answer. See, the question for us is, we've always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him. And as all of you know, he has always taken his decisions and announced them at the appropriate time," Kasi Viswanathan told CSK in an interview.
"We do expect that we will get a decision as and when he decides. But we are very, very hopeful that he will be available for CSK next year. That is the view and the expectations of fans and me. That's the case," he added.
