Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) in-form opener Sunil Narine was left bamboozled by Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Narine did not offer a shot and got bowled by Bumrah in the second over of the innings for a golden duck. With his 44th duck of T20 career (T20Is, franchise cricket, domestic T20s), the Caribbean all-rounder broke former England opener Alex Hales record for most ducks in the format.

Gujarat Titans' (GT) Rashid Khan is the closest to the record with 42 ducks in T20s. The Afghan all-rounder is followed by Ireland's Paul Stirling (32 ducks), Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) Glenn Maxwell and England's Jason Roy (31 ducks each).

This was Narine's 16th duck in the IPL. MI's Piyush Chawla has same number of ducks as well. The top spot is occupied by RCB’s Dinesh Karthik and Maxwell with 17 ducks each. MI opener Rohit has 17 ducks as well.

This was also Narine's eighth golden duck in the IPL. He shares the second spot with Narine who has seven golden ducks as well in the cash-rich league. The top spot belongs to Rashid with 11 ducks.

Despite the golden duck in the rain-curtailed 16 overs per side encounter at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Narine has been in top form this season. He has scored 461 runs from 12 games at an average of 38.42 including one century and three half-centuries. His strike rate is an astounding 182.94.

KKR recover despite early wickets in powerplay overs

Earlier, Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. Nuwan Thushara got the wicket of Philip Salt in the first over. Venkatesh Iyer had a nervy start but managed to find boundaries. Young pacer Anshul Kamboj knocked over KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer in the fifth over. Venkatesh missed his half-century and departed for a 21-ball 42. Back after injury, Nitish Rana got run out for a 23-ball 33. Cameos from Andre Russell (14-ball 24), Rinku Singh (12-ball 20) and Ramandeep Singh (eight-ball 17) helped KKR post 157/7.
