Sunil Narine bags historic milestone after helping KKR win IPL 2024 title, becomes only player to achieve this massive feat

Sunil Narine scripted history by winning the MVP award thrice in the history of IPL. Narine amassed 488 runs and 17 wickets to help KKR lift IPL 2024 title.

Sunil Narine cemented his place in IPL history after Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) dominant victory in the IPL 2024 final against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In a dominant display, the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) bowling attack dismantled the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batting line-up, restricting them to a measly 113 runs – the lowest total in an IPL final. Chasing a modest target, KKR opener Venkatesh Iyer played a blistering knock, scoring an unbeaten 52 off just 26 balls, to secure a comfortable eight-wicket victory and their third IPL title. 

 

Narine becomes IPL 2024's Most Valuable Player (MVP)

Sunil Narine's all-around performance throughout the season was nothing short of phenomenal, earning him the well-deserved title of Most Valuable Player (MVP). This season marked Narine's greatest IPL campaign to date. The strategic decision to promote him to the opening slot paid off handsomely, as he amassed a staggering 488 runs.  But his brilliance wasn't limited to batting. Narine also chipped in with a crucial 17 wickets, showcasing his exceptional bowling skills. This incredible two-pronged contribution has many labeling him as a contender for the title of the greatest IPL player ever.

Sunil Narine has etched his name in IPL history by becoming the first player ever to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award three times. This wasn't his first brush with IPL's top individual honor. He previously claimed the Player of the Tournament (POTM) award in 2012, which later transitioned into the MVP title.  Narine's 2024 triumph further cements his legendary status, leaving him as the sole player with three MVP awards. While other greats like Andre Russell and Shane Watson have secured the award twice, Narine stands alone in this elite category.

He holds a unique distinction in the IPL - being one of the few players to have ever played for a single team throughout their IPL career.  Narine's loyalty extends even further as he was a key member of all three of KKR's IPL championship teams, including the 2012 and 2014 victories.
