The three-match series kicks off on July 27, marking Suryakumar Yadav's debut as captain after taking over from Rohit Sharma. India boast a well-rounded squad for this series, offering an opportunity to solidify their core group for the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, the inclusion of young all-rounder Riyan Parag has drawn some criticism. Yet, Yadav sees something special in the player, believing him to be a potential game-changer.

Suryakumar Yadav highlights Riyan Parag's X factor
Riyan Parag enjoyed a stellar IPL 2024 campaign, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer with 573 runs in 16 matches. He played a pivotal role in Rajasthan Royals' playoff qualification, delivering crucial performances under pressure. Suryakumar Yadav has expressed immense confidence in Riyan Parag, explaining the rationale behind his selection for the Sri Lanka T20I series. The Indian captain believes Parag possesses an X-factor that can make a significant impact on the team.
“Ryan Parag has a certain X-factor,” Suryakumar said, as quoted by Cricketaddictor.
Suryakumar Yadav also discussed his bond with head coach Gautam Gambhir, stating that they share a special relationship and understand each other's body language very well. He elaborated:
"I have always have had a special bond with Gautam Gambhir, since 2014. We understand each other's body language," Suryakumar added.
Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir, both will be looking to kick off their stint on a high note in the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The duo has a strong rapport, having previously played together for the Kolkata Knight Riders, where Gambhir was the captain and Suryakumar served as vice-captain.
