Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter Suryakumar Yadav failed to clear his fitness Test on March 19 (Tuesday) and is set to miss at least the franchise's first match of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). The Mumbai Indians batter shared a 'heartbreak' emoji on Tuesday on his Instagram status.
When will Suryakumar Yadav undergo the next fitness test?
It is being reported that Suryakumar Yadav's next fitness test is scheduled for March 21 (Thursday) and there is optimism around the explosive batter clearing the upcoming challenge. MI coach Mrk Boucher on Suryakumar Yadav
In the press conference on March 18 (Monday), MI head coach Mark Boucher made it clear that Suryakumar is awaiting clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to participate in the cash-rich tournament.
"We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. We have always been under a cloud of fitness issues but we have a world-class medical team. We may lose one or two (players) in terms of fitness but we have to move on as is sport," Boucher said.
MI need Suryakumar in top form
Suryakumar is arguably the best batter in the Mumbai Indians' squad. His exploits in T20 cricket are well documented and what he brings to any T20 team remains unrivaled. Last season, the explosive batter led all MI batters in the run-scoring charts, amassing 605 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 181.14. He also registered five half-centuries and a ton in the previous edition of the tournament.
Thus, the Mumbai Indians and its fan base would hope that Suryakumar clears in fitness test in the next attempt and joins the team sooner rather than later.
