Batters often express their frustration after getting out by cussing, throwing their helmet, gloves or hitting the ground with the bat but West Indies’ T20 World Cup 2016 winning member Carlos Brathwaite took it up a notch. After losing his wicket in MAX60 T10 League 2024 match, he took off his helmet and smashed it with his bat out of the boundary line at George Town.

In the Super Three clash against Grand Cayman Jaguars, New York Strikers' Brathwaite walked out to bat in the sixth over. On the third ball of the ninth over, he could not hit the short ball from Ireland pacer Joshua Little. The ball hit his shoulder and then carried to wicketkeeper Ben Dunk.

Brathwaite departed after scoring seven runs from five balls including a six. As he walked back to the dugout, he took off his helmet and whacked it out of the ground with his bat. He also scared one of his teammates as he tried to get out of the way.

Despite Brathwaite's wicket, New York Strikers posted 104/8. Brathwaite was wicketless and conceded 16 runs from two overs. Grand Cayman Jaguars failed to chase down the target and lost the match by eight runs. New York Strikers advanced to the final of the MAX60 tournament.

Brathwaite fails in final

In the final against George Munsey-led Caribbean Tigers, Brathwaite failed with the bat again. Caribbean Tigers' Josh Brown smashed an 18-ball 60 laced with four fours and six sixes to help his side a daunting total of 125/6. He had support from Chris Lynn who scored 35 runs from 16 balls. Lynn got out caught and bowled by Brathwaite on the penultimate ball of the innings.

In the run chase, he was promoted up the order. He walked out to take the guard in the third over. However, he lost his wicket to Australian pacer Andrew Tye after scoring just two runs from three balls. Apart from captain Thisara Perera, no New York Strikers batter put up a fight as they got bundled out for 69 in 8.1 overs. New York Strikers lost the final by 56 runs.
