Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri returned to the Indian dressing room after a long time to give the special best-fielder medal to star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant after the clash between India and Pakistan in match 19 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, on June 9 (Sunday).

Pant receives best fielder medal

Rishabh Pant received the best fielder medal from Ravi Shastri. The star player took three important catches and also saved a lot of runs from behind the wicket. He was also the highest run-scorer of the match with 42 runs off 31 balls. His knock helped the Indian team put a fighting total on board.

Ravi Shastri after giving Pant a medal praised the player for his miraculous return to cricket following his horrific car accident. He also recalled being heartbroken watching Pant in the hospital and told him that his return and skills on the field are a tribute to his hard work.

India pick second straight win

India's batting first got bowled out on just 119 runs and when everyone counted out the Men in Blue, Indian bowlers fought back and restricted Pakistan to 113/7 to pick up another famous win. Rohit Sharma did acknowledge that the batters did not perform well but praised the bowlers for playing the game-changing role.

β€œWe didn't bat well enough. Halfway through our innings we were in good position. We didn't put enough partnership there and fell short with the bat. We spoke about every run matters on a pitch like that. There was enough in the pitch. Was a good wicket to be honest, compared to the last game. With a bowling lineup like that you feel confident to do the job. Halfway through the stage when they were batting, we got everyone together and said that if it can happen to us, it can happen to them. Little contribution from everyone can make huge difference. He's going from strength to strength (Bumrah). We all know what he can do. Not going to talk too much about him. Want him to be in that mindset throughout the WC. He's a genius, we all know that. Crowd was superb. They never disappoint wherever we play. I'm sure they'll be going home with a big smile. It's just the start, we have a long way to go,” said Rohit in the post-match presentation.
