'The script not with purple ink but in that blue...': Gautam Gambhir shows rare emotion in his message for KKR fans
After leading Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL 2024 trophy as mentor, Gautam Gambhir bid goodbye to the franchise's hands ahead of first first tour as India men's team head coach.
Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir who helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as mentor to win their third Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy shared a heartfelt message for the franchise's fans. After serving one season as mentor with KKR, Gambhir has been roped in as India's head coach. A week after his appointment as Rahul Dravid's successor, Gambhir posted a video of him showcasing emotions for KKR fans, a team he led to two IPL trophies as captain.
"I smile when you smile. I cry when you cry. I win when you win. I lose, when you lose. I dream when you dream. I achieve when you achieve. I believe with you and I become with you I am you Kolkata, I'm just one of you. I know you're emotional. So am I. I know you're demanding. So am I. Kolkata, we are a bond. We are a story. We are a team," Gambhir said in the video.
"And now the time has come when we have to create some legacies together. The time has come when we have to write some bigger and bolder scripts. The script not with purple ink but in that blue, the treasured India blue. As we both take our fresh card we promise each other that we will never walk alone. It will always be shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand. It will all be for the tri-color. It will all be about our India," the 42-year-old added.
Several questions before Gambhir leaves for his first assignment
Gambhir's first assignment as head coach will be the Sri Lanka tour. India will play three T20Is and as many ODIs on the tour. The squad for the tour is yet to be announced.
While Gambhir’s support staff is yet to be announced, the left-handed batter has recommended Abhishek Nayar as batting coach, Morne Morkel as bowling coach and Ryan ten Doeschate as fielding coach.
Meanwhile, India’s new T20I captain is yet to be revealed as well. There is a toss-up between Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav. As per reports, Gambhir has also urged senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah available for the ODI series against Sri Lanka next month.
