Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) struggles continued on Monday, April 15 as they slumped to their fifth consecutive defeat of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Faf Du Plessis-led RCB went down to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 25 runs in a record-breaking high-scoring encounter at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The match was a nightmare for RCB's bowlers who were mercilessly attacked by the Hyderabad batters. The onslaught resulted in a mammoth total of 287 runs for just 3 wickets, the highest ever recorded in the history of the Indian Premier League.

While the bowlers were brutally belted, former RCB captain Virat Kohli appeared to be on an emotional rollercoaster. The disappointment was evident on his face as boundaries rained down and balls soared into the stands at a record pace. Kohli's repeated expressions of frustration throughout the Hyderabad innings painted a clear picture of his team's struggles.

The misery didn't end for RCB fans during their chase. Virat Kohli, who started off aggressively with a quickfire 42 runs off just 20 balls, only added to their disappointment.  His dismissal triggered a furious reaction – punching his bat and yelling – as he walked back to the pavilion, a scene that epitomized RCB's frustrating night.

No respite for RCB

Earlier, SRH won the toss and opted to bat first and went on to set a new IPL record with their massive score of 287 runs for three wickets. Pat Cummins' SRH surpassed their own previous record of 277 set just last month. The onslaught was fueled by a blistering century (102 runs off 41 balls) from Travis Head and a powerful 67 from Heinrich Klaasen. Interestingly, this record-breaking total became the second-highest ever recorded in a T20 match, falling just short of Nepal's staggering 314-3 against Mongolia in the Asian Games held last year.  In the end, RCB's valiant chase of 262 for 7, while impressive, wasn't enough to overcome the mountain of runs set by Hyderabad. The combined score of 549 runs across both innings made this match the highest-scoring T20 game in history.

SRH will next lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 20 while Du Plessis' RCB will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 21.
