The cricketing world witnessed a major upset on June 6, 2024, as USA stunned Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 6. Iceland Cricket, known for their playful social media presence, couldn't resist joining the celebration. Following a thrilling encounter at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, the match went down to the wire.

Both teams finished their innings on a tied score of 159 runs, forcing a tense Super Over. In a display of exceptional resolve, the USA successfully defended their 19-run total in the Super Over, securing a historic victory against Pakistan.

Taking to their social media platform (formerly known as Twitter), Iceland Cricket heaped praise on the American team. Using a lighthearted food analogy, they commended Aaron Jones' batting and Saurabh Netravalkar's bowling, summing up the USA's performance as nothing short of 'sensational'.

"The USA has burgered and fried Pakistan in the Super Over! Aaron Jones with the batting onions, Saurabh Netravalkar with the bowling mustard, and Kumar with the bread roll! Sensational by the hosts," Iceland Cricket wrote.

USA jolt Pakistan

The stage was set for a nail-biting Super Over. Pakistan captain Babar Azam handed the ball to the experienced Mohammad Amir, hoping his pace could restrict the American batsmen. Aaron Jones and Harmeet Singh walked out for the USA, needing 18 runs to win. Jones started aggressively, smashing the first ball for a boundary. He followed it up with a clever two runs towards long-on. The pressure seemed to get to Amir as his next delivery was a perfect yorker, but it only conceded a single run. Inconsistency plagued Amir's bowling, with a wide ball gifting the USA two extra runs. With two balls remaining, the score reached a tense 18, putting immense pressure on Pakistan.

Pakistan, needing 19 runs to win, opted for a more attacking approach. Fakhar Zaman and Iftikhar Ahmed were entrusted with the chase. Saurabh Netravalkar, with nerves of steel, took the ball for the USA. He started with a dot ball, raising Pakistan's anxieties. However, Iftikhar managed to find the boundary on the next delivery, briefly reigniting hope. But that hope was dashed on the very next ball as he was dismissed attempting an aggressive shot, leaving Pakistan needing an improbable 12 runs from 4 balls.

The tension continued as Shadab Khan stepped in at number 3 for Pakistan. He managed to squeeze out a couple of runs from the second-last delivery, leaving them needing an improbable 6 runs from the final ball to even tie the match. Netravalkar held his nerve, bowling a wide yorker that only conceded a single run. Pakistan fell short, handing the USA a historic and dramatic victory. This win wasn't just a celebration, it was a statement. The USA now sits atop Group A, undefeated in their first two matches. However, their journey to the Super 8 stages isn't over yet. They need to secure at least one win in their remaining two group matches.

Next up for the USA is a highly anticipated clash with cricketing giants India at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 12. Their final group stage match will be against Canada in Florida on June 14. It will be interesting to see whether USA can continue their winning streak and secure a spot in the Super 8 stage.
