WATCH: Vinay Kumar gives death stare to Sohaib Maqsood after taking his wicket in India vs Pakistan World Champions of Legends 2024 final

Vinay Kumar took the crucial wicket of an in-form Sohaib Maqsood in the World Championship of Legends 2024 final after taking a beating in the same over.

The players in the World Championship of Legends 2024 are retired but their passion for the game remains the same. In a high-voltage final at Edgbaston, Birmingham between India and Pakistan, there were a heated moments. India’s Vinay Kumar was not a happy man when he was hit for a six and a four by Sohaib Maqsood. But Vinay followed his plans and made Maqsood fall into his trap and hand an easy catch to Rahul Shukla in the outfield. A pumped-up Vinay then gave Maqsood a death stare as he walked back to the dressing room.

Batting at no.3, 37-year-old Maqsood contributed with a 12-ball 21. He has been in good form in the tournament scoring 204 runs from seven games at an average of 29.14 and strike rate of 153.38. He scored two half-centuries in the tournament including one against India at the league stage.

A week after the league stage clash, Maqsood became Vinay's only victim in the final. He bowled his full quota of overs and conceded 36 runs. Vinay bagged three wickets in the tournament from four games. He wasn't part of the league stage game against Pakistan.

India beat Pakistan in final

Later, Shoaib Malik's 41-run knock and Sohail Tanvir's nine-ball 19 cameo helped Pakistan Champions set a target of 157. In the run chase, Ambati Rayudu's 30-ball half-century and Yusuf Pathan's 16-ball 30 cameo helped India win by five wickets with five balls left in the innings.
 

Vinay was Gambhir’s recommendation for bowling coach

Earlier this week, Sports Tak reported that India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir had recommended Vinay’s name for bowling coach. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suggested names of Zaheer Khan and Lakshmipathy Balaji as they were not convinced by Vinay. Later, Gambhir also suggested former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel for the role. Morkel had worked with Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Also, Morkel was bowling coach of Pakistan cricket team.
