WATCH: Virat Kohli's stare down with Gautam Gambhir hypes up fiery RCB vs KKR's IPL 2024 showdown
Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir will be up against each other once again to renew their on-field rivalry in the IPL 2024's clash between RCB and KKR.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 29 in a match buzzing with lots of action and past tension. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, known for their on-field clashes, are set to face off again, albeit in different roles. While Kohli will be leading RCB's batting line-up, Gautam Gambhir will be mentoring KKR side and the clash between the two adds a new layer of hype to their long-standing rivalry. Previous encounters between the two have been marked by intense confrontations and arguments on the field, leading to ongoing tension. IPL 2023 saw a heated tussle between Kohli and Gambhir after the RCB vs LSG's match which necessitated team intervention to douse the temper. The rivalry between Gambhir and Kohli on the field traces back to the 2013 season during a clash between RCB and KKR, where a high-tension moment followed Kohli's wicket, escalating into a contentious exchange between the two.
The duo is up against each other yet again as both teams gear up for their upcoming battle in Bengaluru, the dynamic between Gambhir and Kohli remains a hot topic. KKR subtly referenced their history with a clever post on their official social media account on X. They shared two images: the first features Gambhir with a figure blurred in the background, which sharpens in the second photo to reveal Virat Kohli looking towards Gambhir.
The caption for the post read, “Cricket images that hit hard,” underlining the intense nature of their rivalry.
In their season opener last week, the Knight Riders clinched a close victory by four runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, while RCB bounced back from an initial defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by overcoming Shikhar Dhawan's Punjab Kings in an exciting run chase.
Virat Kohli found his form again in the game against PBKS, hitting an impressive 77 from just 49 balls, playing a pivotal role in RCB's pursuit of the target for much of the innings. Later, Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror put on a display of power hitting to secure RCB's first victory of the season.
After his match-winning performance, Kohli was awarded the player of the match and is set to continue his quest for the Orange Cap with hopes of a strong showing in the upcoming Friday match.
