Virat Kohli-starrer RCB announce their new name for IPL 2024, unveil stunning new jersey
RCB have changed their name to Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. RCB will take on CSK in the IPL 2024 opener.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will play with a new name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. During their ‘RCB Unbox 2024’ event held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru it was announced that the Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis-starred team will now be officially known as the ‘Royal Challengers Bengaluru’.
RCB to play with new name in IPL 2024
“The City we love, the Heritage we embrace, and this is the time for our A new chapter. Presenting to you, Royal Challengers Bengaluru. You team, you RCB,” RCB's post read.
Why RCB change their name?
This change aligns with the city's official name change from Bangalore to Bengaluru in 2014. Home fans have long expressed their desire for the team name to reflect the city's current designation, and this event finally brought that wish to fruition. The franchise hinted at this potential change earlier in March by releasing video clips featuring prominent figures from the Kannada film industry on their social media platforms, further fueling speculation among fans.

Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli, who was also present at the event alongwith Faf Du Plessis, said:
“As everyone knows, I will always be here to be part of the group which wins for the first time, I will try my absolute best for the franchise, it's a dream of mine as well to know how it feels to win the IPL - hopefully this year”.
Recently, Smriti Mandhana-led RCB women's team clinched the WPL 2024 title in just their second year as they stand in stark contrast to the Faf Du Plessis' men's RCB team's lack of success in the IPL's 16-year history. Despite the men's struggles, RCB aren't the first IPL franchise to undergo a name change. In 2022, Kings XI Punjab rebranded themselves as Punjab Kings, and earlier, the Delhi Daredevils became the Delhi Capitals.
RCB unveil new jersey for IPL 2024
RCB also unveiled their brand new jerseys for the much-awaited IPL 2024 season during a star-studded RCB Unbox event. While the new red and dark blue jerseys generated a lot of buzz, reactions from cricket fans on social media have been mixed.
