Sources have revealed that India's head coach at the ODI World Cup 2023, Rahul Dravid, is unlikely to extend his contract and instead will join Indian Premier League (IPL) side Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their new mentor. He is set to be replaced by VVS Laxman, who is the current head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after coaching the India Under-19 and India A teams.

A top source in the know of things told Sports Tak, "Dravid doesn't want to continue and he is already in talks with LSG. It seems as if he doesn't continue with the national team, then he might go to LSG as a mentor. On the other hand, VVS Laxman who is with the team as head coach may continue. There is a meeting to be scheduled to discuss all this soon everyone will be called to discuss the future of coaching and the team as well."

With past coaching stints in the IPL, for teams like Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, the speculations were rife that Dravid might return to the T20 league. A previous BCCI source told PTI, "VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break and the same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup."

Many can expect an official announcement for the same post India's T20I series against Australia

Meanwhile, in the ongoing series, Team India might undergo a rotation policy, paving the path for players who recently participated in the T20I series spanning West Indies, Ireland, and the Asian Games. Veteran players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah may be given a break, allowing them to rejuvenate for an important series against South Africa where Men in Blue India will play three T20Is, two Tests and three ODIs.

The five-match T20I series commenced in Visakhapatnam on November 23, with India securing a very close two-wicket victory.
