WCPL: Jemimah Rodrigues fights to find form as Trinbago Knight Riders slump to consecutive defeats
Jemimah Rodrigues has displayed promising signs in her two matches for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Women's Caribbean Premier League, but is still waiting for a big knock.
Young Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues has displayed potential in the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) 2024, but has yet to achieve a significant score.
Jemimah Rodrigues' batting struggles in WCPL 2024 continues
Representing the Trinbago Knight Riders, led by Deandra Dottin, Rodrigues has scored 42 runs from two matches, averaging 24 with a strike rate of 120.
The Knight Riders are currently at the bottom of the table with a negative net run rate of -1.171, having lost both their matches. Their campaign began with a seven-wicket defeat to the Barbados Royals at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
Trinbago Knight Riders' Struggles in WCPL
Following their initial loss to Barbados Royals, the Trinbago Knight Riders suffered another defeat, this time by eight wickets, against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. With a negative net run rate, the Knight Riders are in a precarious position and must win their next match against Lauren Winfield-Hill's Warriors to have any chance of reaching the final.
Jemimah Rodrigues has continued to work hard despite her lack of substantial scores in the WCPL. In the match against Barbados Royals, she started strongly, hitting three fours before being dismissed by Aaliyah Alleyne. Against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, she contributed 26 runs from 24 balls before being dismissed by Nyia Latchman.
While other players like Erin Burns and Hayley Matthews have made significant contributions to their respective teams, the Trinbago Knight Riders will rely on Jemimah Rodrigues to deliver a big performance in their upcoming matches.
Rodrigues' WCPL Goals
Jemimah Rodrigues previously expressed her intention to use the WCPL as a platform to regain her rhythm and prepare for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup.
"These are the matches that I'm actually going to get before going and playing like proper team matches [T20 World Cup]," Jemimah said in a media interaction organised by Fancode.
Rodrigues also has the company of her Team India teammate and fast fowler Shikha Pandey, who is also representing the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Women's Caribbean Premier League.
