'We should not get confused that...': Team India star's honest take on Border-Gavaskar Trophy selection after 1st Test vs Bangladesh
India speedster Akash Deep who made his Test debut during England Test series earlier this year opened up on his inclusion in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 squad.
India pacer Akash Deep made his Test debut earlier this year during the series against England, where his strong performances quickly caught attention, leading to his inclusion in India’s squad for the series against Bangladesh and securing a spot in the playing XI for the first Test. Akash Deep continued to shine, playing a pivotal role in the Chennai Test by taking two crucial wickets in the first innings, solidifying his position as a key member of the bowling attack.
However, despite his impressive performances, Akash Deep remains unfazed by the speculation about his potential selection for the high-profile series. Speaking ahead of the second Test against Bangladesh, he emphasized the importance of staying focused on the present, asserting that he doesn’t dwell on what lies ahead. His commitment to taking things one match at a time reflects his disciplined approach and maturity as a player.
"When we play at this level, we should not get confused that I played a certain style at that level (Ranji) and things are different here. I don't put too much pressure that I need to go to Australia and all that. I live in the present. It remains simple for me," Akash Deep said.
"In the last two years, I have played a lot of cricket. It's not just three-month season for us. Even after Ranji, you play Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup. As a player, you need to understand yourself and know your strengths," he added.
His impressive spell of 2/19 was crucial in establishing India’s dominance early in the first innings. If given the opportunity, Akash Deep aims to build on that momentum in the second Test, set to begin in Kanpur on Friday. He’s determined to contribute to his team’s success and continue making an impact.
