Former India opener Virender Sehwag described Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) MS Dhoni's brief appearance against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 59 of the Indian Premier League 2024 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, as merely 'entertainment'. Notably, Dhoni entered the game at eighth in the batting order while his team was struggling at 165/6 after 16.4 overs, chasing a lofty target of 232. The superstar wicket-keeper batter knocked an undefeated 26* off 11 balls, but CSK concluded their innings at 196/8, losing by 35 runs. Amid ongoing discussions about Dhoni’s batting order this season, Sehwag avoided further debate, expressing that Dhoni has the right to choose his batting position.

We should end the debate around MS Dhoni's batting position: Sehwag

“We should end the debate around MS Dhoni's batting position. He knows what he wants to do. It's his wish. But if you want to win the match, the form he is in, and the strike rate that he's batting at... the other batters need to play at a similar level,” said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.

Sehwag said the fans were treated to a fantastic display of batting as he hit big shots all over the ground. Winning or losing became secondary after such an entertaining performance.

“I don't want to get into the debate. Wherever he bat, it's fine. He played fine, entertained the public, who cares if they win or lose? He entertained public, that's it,” he added.

MS Dhoni has been in incredible form this season of the IPL. The 42-year-old, he seems to be back to his best. In his ten innings so far, he has scored 136 runs at an impressive average of 68 and a mind-blowing strike rate of 226.66. Dhoni has hit 11 fours and a whopping 12 sixes, much to the delight of his fans.

Dhoni's contribution has been crucial for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In their match against Mumbai Indians (MI), his quickfire 20 runs off just 4 balls helped CSK reach a total of 206/4. This high score proved to be the deciding factor as CSK won the match by 15 runs. So far in 12 matches, Dhoni has scored 136 runs with a strike rate of 226.67. CSK are currently in fourth place on the points table with six wins from 12 matches. They have 12 points and need to win both of their remaining games to qualify for the playoffs comfortably. Their next two matches are against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and they will be looking to win both encounters to secure their place in the playoffs.
