Suryakumar Yadav's incredible catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final is destined to be remembered alongside legendary moments like Kapil Dev's dismissal of Viv Richards in the 1983 World Cup. Playing against South Africa at Kensington Oval in Barbados, India needed a miracle with just 16 runs needed in the final over and dangerous looking David Miller on strike. The first ball of the last over witnessed a turning point. Suryakumar, fielding at long-off, produced a sensational grab, diving full stretch to seemingly deny Miller a six. He ensured he stayed within the boundary line, then smartly flung the ball up before completing the catch to dismiss the key batsman.

What is the fuss about Suryakumar Yadav's sensational catch in T20 World Cup final?

An interesting observation during the replays was that the boundary rope appeared to be behind the line marked as the boundary. So, was the boundary rope moved back during the catch? The truth has come to light, the marked line was not the actual boundary. In fact, the boundary rope was behind the marker for the entire final match. The reason for this lies in the pitch used for the match. To ensure the boundary size was not too small, the rope was placed further back. The line seen in the visuals was from a previous match at the venue where the rope had been positioned further ahead.
