WI vs ENG: Sam Curran makes up for poor 1st ODI with brilliant performance in second game to level series 1-1

In the second ODI on December 6, England secured a six-wicket victory against West Indies at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, levelling the three-match series at 1-1.

Sam Curran and Will Jacks played crucial roles in England's triumph. Curran, who had a tough first match, redeemed himself by taking three important wickets, including those of Brandon King, Keacy Carty, and Shimron Hetmyer. Liam Livingstone and Rehan Ahmed also contributed with key wickets, while Gus Atkinson had a commendable bowling performance.

West Indies faced early struggles, reaching 23 for four in seven overs. Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford's partnership of 129 runs for the fifth wicket provided some momentum, but West Indies only managed to score 202 runs in 39.4 overs.

In response, England dominated from the beginning, scoring 74 runs in the powerplay despite losing Phil Salt's wicket. Gudakesh Motie's two wickets briefly gave West Indies hope, but England maintained control.

Will Jacks shone with a score of 73 runs off 72 balls, featuring six fours and four sixes. Harry Brook and Jos Buttler's unbeaten partnership of 90 runs secured England's victory. Brook scored 43 off 49 with two fours and two sixes, while Buttler contributed 58 off 45. Buttler also surpassed 5000 runs in ODIs, becoming the fifth Englishman to achieve this milestone.

England comfortably chased the target with 17.1 overs to spare. The series will be decided in the third ODI on December 9 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Speaking after the match, Curran said, “It was a tough day the other day, but you need to keep moving forward and bounce back. We did so many things right in that first game. The messages from the coaches and captain was just that. We had to come back today and put things right, which we did.”
