South Africa's stand-in captain Rassie van der Dussen was highly disappointed after losing the third and final T20I of the three-match series by 8 wickets against Brandon King-led West Indies at the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, on May 27 (Monday). With this, SA lost the series 3-0 and a clean sweep loss just before the T20 World Cup 2024 can be a confidence crusher for anyone. He said that they had been taught a lesson and their performance was just not good enough.

Dussen did not hold back and said there's no excuse to lose a series like that. However, he was happy that De Kock could find some good form ahead of the mega tournament.

“Thoroughly disappointing, we have been taught a lesson, we couldn't adapt, still today we couldn't time the ball well so not happy with that. You can chat all you want, you have to deliver in the middle. The chatting is done, some of the guys will be coming into the squad for the World Cup,” said Rassie van der Dussen in the post-match presentation.

“They are playing in their home conditions but that's no excuse, we also have some spinning pitches back at home. They were good with the bat and they were better with the ball than us. The majority of the squad are playing together for 3-4 years so they know each other. De Kock finding some form was good and Peter did well. But, overall it was not good enough from us,” he added.

SA's move to T20 World Cup 2024

The Proteas won't be playing any warm-up game against any team going into the T20 World Cup 2024. However, they will compete in an Intra-squad match at the Broward County Stadium in Florida.
