WI vs UGA: Akeal Hosein creates history with fifer in T20 World Cup 2024, becomes first Windies bowler with this record

Akeal Hosein with his five-wicket haul helped Rovman Powell-led West Indies defeat Brian Masaba's Uganda by a massive margin of 134 runs in match 18 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, on June 9 (Sunday). This is also the biggest win for the Windies in terms of the win margin and the match also witnessed Uganda getting all out on 39 runs which is the joint-lowest score by a team in the history of the mega tournament. Hosein's fifer is historic for both him and the Windies team.

Windies batting first posted 173/5 on the scoreboard and then bowled out Uganda on the paltry score of 39 runs with the help of Akeal Hosein's fifer. His bowling spell was also the real highlight of this match. The star spinner was the hero of the Windies' historic win. He also became the first-ever West Indies bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul in the T20 World Cups.

Hosein speaks on his performance vs UGA

“I think I needed this. In the nets and in the previous series, I felt like the ball was coming out of my hand good. I think I was doing everything right in the nets but I just wasn't getting the rewards. Just have to stay calm and it'll be my turn soon. (Favourite wicket) I think I'll go with the regular finger spinner one, that was my favourite. It's a lot of hard work (to perform at this level), especially when you start getting success,” said Hosein in the post-match presentation.

 

“The way the game is moving, guys are going to study you and they are going to come up with different plans. So you always have to stay one step ahead of them every time. (Bowling in the powerplay) For me, it's about trying to react to what the surface is doing and try to plan out your over, that's the key. Even though you are getting the ball to move both ways, if you don't plan out your over, then you can end up in a mess. It's about good lengths and try to plan the over well. (Bowling four overs on the trot) I don't mind, I am happy to bowl wherever the team needs me. When you are in that good form, you just continue and bowl out four overs,” he added.
