Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise owner Vijay Mallya reacted to the women's team winning the Women's Premier League (WPL) title on March 17 (Sunday). Mallya took to X (formerly Twitter) and extended his congratulatory message to the RCB women's team. Moreover, Mallya also underlined the 'long overdue' Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the franchise, which is yet to win the cash-rich tournament despite playing in all 16 seasons.

"Heartiest congratulations to the RCB Women’s Team for winning the WPL. It would be a fantastic double if the RCB Men’s Team won the IPL which is long overdue. Good Luck," Mallya wrote on X.

RCB's title drought finally ends

The Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the most famous sports franchises in the world. RCB, which has been part of the IPL since its inception in 2008, has often boasted a star-studded squad, none bigger than Virat Kohli. Yet, the franchise could never get their hands on that elusive title. They came close in 2009, 2011 and 2016 but ended up finishing as the second-best team in the tournament.

However, the curse is finally lifted. Smriti Mandhana-led RCB's women's team secured the WPL title and sparked a buoyant celebration all across Bengaluru on March 17.

An eight-wicket win for RCB

In the final, RCB defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Although the Mandhana's team was put on the backfoot to begin the match, RCB came roaring back into the contest after Sophie Molineux bagged three wickets in four balls.

From there on, it was all RCB as DC lost their way completely and were all out for just 113 runs. RCB were cautious in their run chase but they managed to reach the promised land with eight wickets to spare and three balls remaining in the contest.
