Yashasvi Jaiswal on cusp of shattering Brendon McCullum’s six-hitting record in 5th Test against England in Dharamsala Test

India's star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is on brink of achieving a big milestone in the upcoming fifth and final Test against England in Dharamsala. Positioned just behind England's Test coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes, Jaiswal is nearing a massive six-hitting record in Test cricket.

In the current five-match series against England, Jaiswal has turned heads with his splendid batting display which including two back-to-back double tons. The star southpaw is the top scorer of the series, amassing 655 runs across four Tests with an outstanding average of 93.57 and a strike rate of 78.63.

The young opener, at 22, has already notched up two double centuries and a couple of half-centuries in the series. He has become the third Indian batsman, following in the footsteps of Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli, to score over 600 runs in a Test series against England.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Close to Surpassing Brendon McCullum’s Six-Hitting Record

 

In just two months of 2024, Jaiswal has smashed 23 sixes. He is chasing the record set by Brendon McCullum, who holds the record for the most sixes in a single calendar year in Test cricket with 33 in 2014. Ben Stokes is next in line with 26 sixes in 2022.

Trailing Jaiswal are Adam Gilchrist of Australia with 22 sixes in 2005, India’s Virender Sehwag also with 22 in 2008, and Rishabh Pant with 21 in 2022. With more Test matches scheduled for India in this calendar year, Jaiswal is expected to add to his six-count.

Jaiswal busts Wasim Akram's big record

During the Rajkot Test against England, Jaiswal matched Wasim Akram’s achievement by hitting the most sixes in a single Test innings, with 12. The Mumbai batsman scored an unbeaten 216 runs before India's captain Rohit Sharma declared the innings at 430.

 

KL Rahul to Miss Fifth Test Against England


Injured KL Rahul will miss the fifth Test against England, whereas fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the fourth match, will return to the Indian squad.

India are currently leading the series 3-lead after clinching a five-wicket win in Ranchi, also marking their 17th consecutive series victory on home soil. India haven't faced a series loss at home for the last ten years, with their last defeat occurring in 2012.

Notabl, the final Test of the series is set to take place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala from March 7.
