BPL 2024: Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan scored his maiden T20 century for Chattogram Challengers against Khulna Tigers in a one-sided 65-run win.
Bangladesh's young opener Tanzid Hasan showed what he is capable of with his maiden T20 ton in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024. Opening the innings for Chattogram Challengers at their homeground, Tanzid who is yet to make his T20I debut scored a match-winning 116 runs from 65 balls to help his side register an easy 65-run win over Khulna Tigers.
Chattogram Challengers Shuvagata Hom won the toss and opted to bat first. The Challengers lost Muhammad Waseem's wicket early in the second over to Nasum Ahmed. Tanzid hit Wayne Parnell for two fours in the next over to push the scoring rate. Then he smashed Nasum for a six and two fours. He hit a six off Jason Holder as well to take the Challengers score to 49/1 after powerplay overs.
Tanzid continued to hit big. He reached his half-century from 32 deliveries. He accelerated and hit Mukidul Islam for two fours and a six. Tom Bruce played the perfect second fiddle to him. In the 17th over, he reached his maiden T20 ton from 58 balls. In the penultimate over of the innings, his scintillating knock came to an end. He smashed eight sixes and as many fours in his terrific knock. Chattogram Challengers posted 192/4 as Bruce remained unbeaten for 23-ball 36.
In reply, Khulna Tigers' batting suffered a collapse in the middle overs. Apart from skipper Anamul Haque (24-ball 35) and Shai Hope (21-ball 31) no batter made a mark as Khulna Tigers were bowled out for 127.
Chattogram Challengers into playoffs
With their seventh win from 12 games, Chattogram Challengers qualified for the playoffs. They are placed third on the points table below Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians.
Tanzid breaks franchise record
Tanzid's carnage-filled 116 is the joint fifth-highest score in BPL history. It is also the highest score for Chattogram Challengers. The only other batter to hit a century for Chattogram Challengers is Usman Khan who scored an unbeaten 103 in the previous season against Khulna Tigers.
Tanzid’s ODI career so far
Tanzid is likely to make his T20I debut in the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. Last year, he made his ODI debut in the Asia Cup. He failed to prove himself in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup as well. The promising batter has so far scored 179 runs from 13 innings at an average of 13.76 including one half-century.
