Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) MS Dhoni may have played his last Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Dhoni is yet to announce his retirement but this season was speculated to be his last dance considering his limitations after the knee surgery. The 42-year-old was often seen batting despite pain during the season. Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Dhoni took his side close to playoffs qualification but Yash Dayal bowled brilliantly to dismiss him and then conceded just one run from next five deliveries. As RCB cemented their playoffs spot, their players broke into wild celebration. Meanwhile, Dhoni waited for the customary handshake and then left the field. He shook hands with the support staff and headed to the dressing room.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan was not happy with RCB’s extended celebrations after making it six in a row. He felt that the RCB players will regret not shaking hands with Dhoni if this turns out to be his last IPL game.

"If there was ever a time for a group of players to show awareness, we don't know, if that was MS Dhoni's last game and those players have run around the ground doing handstands when all they need to do is wait, 'the legend's over there. We have to just go and shake his hand'.

"You shake hands and then do your cartwheels and stuff. I wouldn't want to be an RCB player waking up tomorrow morning thinking MS Dhoni has just announced his retirement and we didn't have the decency to go and shake his hand first,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz’s post-match show.

Dhoni’s last IPL 2024 knock

Dhoni scored 25 runs from 13 balls in the unsuccessful run chase. He hit a massive six off the first ball of the last ball bowled by Yash Dayal. The ball went outside the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. The 110m six was the biggest six of the season. After the slippery ball was replaced, Dayal bowled a back of the hand slower delivery which got Dhoni’s wicket.
