Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) Abhishek Sharma wreaked havoc on Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) bowlers with his lightning knock during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash on Friday, April 5. Abhishek gave SRH a blistering start while opening while chasing a competitive target set by CSK. However, despite his blitzkrieg, India's legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh gave him a dose to remember for Abhishek's poor shot selection which cost him his wicket.

Yuvraj Singh scolds Abhishek Sharma

Yuvraj first lavished praise on the SRH's southpaw, then scolded him in a humorous way. This happened after Abhishek got out while playing a bad shot following his ace knock against CSK. During the match, played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Abhishek played a fiery knock of 37 runs in just 12 balls while SRH were chasing a target of 166 runs. However, he was dismissed in the third over after playing a poor shot bowled by Deepak Chahar. Yuvraj Singh, who had earlier praised Abhishek, has now blasted him for playing that particular shot. The legendary cricketer shared a meme on his X (formerly known as Twitter). He wrote:

“I’m right behind you boy …well played again - but bad shot to get out on”.

This wasn't Yuvraj's first social media interaction regarding Abhishek Sharma's performance in the IPL. Earlier, when Abhishek blasted a 50 off just 16 balls against Mumbai Indians, Yuvraj praised him while also playfully reprimanding him for the dismissal that ended his innings.

Despite Abhishek's dismissal, Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged victorious in the match against the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings. They secured a win by six wickets, marking their second consecutive victory in the tournament. This win propelled them to the fifth position in the points table.

The quick runs scored by Abhishek during the powerplay innings were crucial in setting a strong foundation for SRH's win. Later, Aiden Markram was dismissed by Moeen Ali shortly after reaching his fifty. Moeen continued his bowling spell by sending Shahbaz Ahmed back to the pavilion.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will now shift their focus to their upcoming IPL clash against Punjab Kings. This match is scheduled to be played on April 9 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Punjab.
