Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan lavished praise on the sensational Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for his exceptional performance in the ongoing Test series against England. On Day 1 of the final Test at the HPCA Stadium in Dharmasala, Jaiswal showcased his remarkable talent, contributing a significant half-century and forming a pivotal partnership with captain Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal's extraordinary series has seen him join the ranks of cricketing legends, becoming the second Indian after the iconic Sunil Gavaskar to amass over 700 runs in a single bilateral Test series.

Zaheer gives Jaiswal his flowers

In an interview with Sports18, Zaheer highlighted Jaiswal's incredible appetite for runs and his disciplined approach to batting, noting that Jaiswal is capitalizing on his form rather than taking it for granted.

“The hunger to score runs is something which is very evident, for a player to have this kind of approach so early in his test career is something which gets everyone excited right now when you're looking at him and the way he's approaching the game,” said Zaheer.

“That potential is going to be immense. He's raised everyone's expectations which he will have to live up to, and that's gonna add more pressure. But there are a lot of good signs when you're looking at him the way he's approaching the game, he's not abusing his form,” he added.

The young prodigy has compiled an impressive tally in the series, including two double centuries and three fifties, demonstrating remarkable consistency at the crease. Zaheer pointed out that Jaiswal's performances are a testament to his potential for building a reputation as a reliable run-scorer for India.

“He just wanted to consolidate his form, not take the form for granted is something which is very important. So he's showing all those right kind of signs for these kinds of performances to come more consistently in future. These kinds of series as an individual, you don't have many in your career. So he's got a great opportunity to build himself this kind of repetition where it's just going to consistently score these kind of runs,” said Zaheer.

Yashasvi Jaiswal leads all batters

Notably, Jaiswal has emerged as the leading run-scorer in the series against England and has set a record as the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 runs in Test cricket, achieving this feat in just 16 innings. This milestone further cements his status as a burgeoning talent in international cricket.

With India holding a commanding 3-1 series lead, the team is poised to conclude the five-match Test series against England on a triumphant note, buoyed by Jaiswal's standout contributions and his promising future in the sport.
