'Aye bhai, zyada hero mat ban': Rohit Sharma scolds Sarfaraz Khan on Day 3 of 4th Test to keep Naushad Khan's promise, video goes viral

India skipper Rohit Sharma, known for his wit and relaxed approach, once again won fans' hearts with a touching gesture on Day 3 of the fourth Test against England on February 25. During the third innings of the India vs England 4th Test in Ranchi, Rohit was seen scolding Sarfaraz Khan for not wearing a helmet while fielding near the English batsman. Notably, prior to Sarfaraz's first game in Rajkot, Rohit had made a commitment to the debutant's father to look after his son.

 

As England's innings progressed on Day 3, Rohit decided to place Sarfaraz close to the batsman. Sarfaraz positioned himself at silly point without a helmet or any protective equipment. Observing this, Rohit Sharma quickly intervened, advising Sarfaraz to prioritize safety over bravado and to ensure he wore protective gear.

 

"Aye bhai, zyada hero mat ban (hey, don't try to be a hero here)," Rohit was heard saying.

Notably, it's standard practice for a fielder positioned near the batter to wear a helmet and shin pads as a safety precaution. The stump microphone recorded Rohit giving advice to Sarfaraz, providing a light-hearted moment for spectators. Sarfaraz, who was in his second Test match, complied by wearing the helmet brought over by KS Bharat before the next ball was played.

Before Sarfaraz Khan's debut in Test cricket for India, he and his family, particularly his father Naushad Khan, were deeply moved. A widely shared video captured a heartfelt moment where Indian captain Rohit Sharma approached Naushad, extending a handshake and a reassuring embrace.

The emotional highlight of their encounter was when Naushad, with tears in his eyes, implored Rohit to look after his son, stating, "Sir dhyan rakhna uska (Sir, please take care of him)." Rohit responded with a firm, “Han. Bilkul, bilkul (Yes, of course, of course).”

India tighten screw on England

Talking about the match, India staged a stunning comeback in the ongoing fourth Test against England in Ranchi on as Dhruv Jurel's valiant 90 and Ravichandran Ashwin's remarkable fifer saw hosts chasing an easy target of 192 runs to secure a series victory in the five-match contest. England were dismissed for 145 during the third day's play, with the Indian spinners dominating on a pitch that increasingly favored slower bowlers as the match progressed. At the end of Day 3's play, India were firm on 40 for no loss with Rohit Sharma (24 off 27) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (16 off 21) intact on the crease.
