Indian kabaddi was caught amidst a new crisis on Wednesday when the sport’s global governing body-International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) has barred the country’s players from participating in International competitions over the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India’s (AKFI) failure to constitute a duly elected body to run and function for its everyday affairs.

The big issue

The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India is currently under an administrator and has no independent control. A writ petition is pending before the court for the same. The next date of hearing is 4th July. Vibhor Jain was elected as the federation’s president when AFKI held its elections in December 2023, and along with him, Jitendra Pran Singh was elected as secretary general. The returning officer (RO) had made it clear with the approval of election results to the result of the petition in the court. Due to RO waiting for the outcome of the petition, AFKI is still under the administrator’s control.

IKF Chief's Letter to IOA President

Indian Kabaddi Federation Chief Vinod Kumar Tiwari wrote a letter to Indian Olympic Federation (IOA) president PT Usha. He wrote "It has come to our knowledge that the administrator of AKFI has conducted the elections to the AKFI on 24.12.2023 and one managing committee has already been elected, yet the management of the AKFI continues to be with the administrator. This is a clear violation of the conditions for affiliation with the IKF. Therefore, it has been decided that the teams sent by the AKFI shall not be allowed to participate in the 1st Senior Men’s World Beach Kabaddi Championships to be held from Sep 12 to 18 in Iran and the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to be held from Nov 23 to 28 in Thailand,"
