Paris Olympics 2024: Arjun Babuta's two low-scoring shots take away his medal hopes, finishes 4th in 10 Air Rifle event

Another heartbreak for Indian contingent on Day 3 of Paris Olympics 2024 as Arjun Babuta missed the bronze medal and finished fourth in 10m Air Rifle event.

Arjun Babuta finished fourth at the 10m Air Rifle event in Paris Olympics 2024. Babuta missed his chance at becoming the second Indian shooter after Manu Bhaker to win in a medal in Paris Olympics.
 

Babuta started Series 1 with a 10.7 shot. He scored 52.4 in Series 1. He started Series 2 with 10.7 and scored 52.6 points in total. In the first elimination round, he shot 10.6 and 10.8. In the second elimination round, he started with a meagre 9.9. 
 

However, he made up with a 10.6 shot. At one point, it seemed as if he will win a silver medal. But towards the end, his shot of 9.5 meant he finished fourth with 208.4 points.
 

Medal winners of the event

China's Sheng Lihao who topped the qualifiers with 631.7 points, maintained his form in the medal round. Sheng won the gold medal with 252.2 points. He was challenged by Sweden's Victor Lindgren towards the end who was not far behind and finished with a score of 251.4 points and won the silver medal. Croatia's Miran Maricic won the bronze medal with 230 points.

Babuta's score in qualification round

Earlier, Babuta made it to the final with a score of 630.1 points. He shot a series of 105.7, 104.9, 105.4, 104.0 and 104.6. He finished seventh in the qualification round on July 28. 

 

Another heartbreak for India

Earlier in the day, Ramita Jindal finished seventh in the women's 10m Air Rifle final with a total score of 145.3 points. 

 

Bhaker-Sarabjot in final

Bhaker who opened the medal count with a bronze medal qualified for 10m Air Pistol mixed team bronze medal match alongside Sarabjot Singh. Manu and Sarabjot had a score of 193, 195 and 192 in their three sixes to qualify for the bronze medal match. The Indian pair will face Korea's Jin Ye Oh and Wonho Lee in the bronze medal match. If the Indian pair wins, Bhaker will become the first from the country to win two medals in a single edition of Olympics (barring English-origin Norman Pritchard).
