WATCH: Indian hockey star Sumit Kumar turns Sourav Ganguly as Harmanpreet & Co. beat Great Britain to qualify for semifinal in Paris Olympics 2024

Indian hockey star Sumit Kumar has done a shirtless celebration as India defeated Great Britain in the quarterfinal of the Paris Olympics 2024.

Indian hockey star Sumit Kumar has done the shirtless celebration just like former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly after defeating Great Britain in their quarterfinal clash of the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. India defeated Britain in a shoot-out after the match was 1-1 tied. India were reduced to 10 men after Amit Rohidas was shown a red card for raising his stick against a Great Britain player. Veteran custodian PR Sreejesh, playing his last international tournament, stood like a rock in front of the Indian goal, making saves after saves.

India's Sumit Kumar was seen celebrating India's victory without his shirt he was seen replicating Sourav Gangly's famous Lord's celebration. The video of Sumit has gone viral on social sphere, here is the clip. 

Amit Rohidas' red card shocked India
 

In the second minute of the second quarter, when Amit Rohidas was dribbling in the midfield, his hockey stick hit the face of the British player. On this, the referee sent the decision for video referral and later they decided that Amit Rohidas deliberately hurt the British player with the stick. For that, Rohidas was given a red card and was thrown out of the match and India played rest of the match with 10 players.

India scored the first goal and the British made a comeback. However, despite having ten players, Harmanpreet's magic worked in the 22nd minute of the match in the second quarter and he scored a goal on a penalty corner, giving the Indian team a 1-0 lead. However, India could not hold on to this lead for long and just five minutes later, in the 27th minute, Lee Morton scored an equaliser for Great Britain, making the score 1-1.

 

Indian hockey team have now qualified for the semifinal of the Olympics where they will face the winner of the upcoming clash between Germany and Spain. Harmanpreet & Co. who clinched the bronze medal in last edition of the game will surely look to change the colour of their medal in the ongoing edition of the games.
