Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India is making every effort to host the 2036 Olympic Games. This commitment comes on the heels of India's performance at the recently concluded Paris Olympics, where the country secured six medals including five bronze and one silver. Notably, India's Neeraj Chopra is the only athlete who clinched silver in the marquee event.

Addressing the Indian diaspora at Nassau Coliseum in New York, PM Modi said that people will witness the Summer Olympics taking place in India as well.

"...Only a few days ago, the Paris Olympics concluded. Very soon, you will witness the Olympics in India too. We are putting in all possible efforts to host the 2036 Olympics," PM Modi said in New York.

Last year, Prime Minister Modi expressed India's commitment to hosting major sporting events, emphasizing the government's "athlete-centric" approach. Speaking to the para-athlete contingent in Delhi after their success at the Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, he highlighted the importance of supporting athletes and creating an environment that fosters excellence in sports. Modi's remarks reflect a broader strategy to uplift India's sports infrastructure and encourage participation at all levels.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India is evolving both in its sporting culture and as a "sporting society." He noted that the country is becoming a major center of attraction in various fields, including sports, business, environment, and entertainment. Modi also recognized the Indian Premier League (IPL) as one of the "top-most leagues" in the world, highlighting its global appeal and the significant role it plays in promoting sports in India. This vision aims to enhance India’s stature on the international sporting stage while fostering a vibrant community of athletes and fans.

"Be it sports, business, environment or entertainment. India is a big centre of attention today. IPL is one of the top most sports leagues in the world. Indian films are doing well globally," said PM Modi during his address.
