Anurag Thakur makes big announcement for athletes, says ‘sports ministry has made a crucial decision…digital certificates to athletes’

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur announced on February 29 that the government plans to provide digital certificates to registered athletes nationwide. This initiative aims to maintain a transparent record of athletes' participation and performance.

These digital certificates will include the dates of athletes' competition involvement, serving as tangible evidence of their accomplishments.

Taking a step further in the digitalisation of Indian sports

"With athletes at the heart of our progressing and growing sporting ecosystem, the sports ministry has made a crucial decision to promote the 'issuance of digital certificates to athletes'," wrote Thakur on 'X'.

 

Thakur emphasised that digital certificates will bring a fresh dimension to sports administration and the management of athletes.

 

Sports Minister Thakur announced on February 29 that a unified single window has been established for processing annual renewals and elections within NSFs.

Digital certificates for athletes via DigiLocker

 

“Keeping up with our policy of ‘athlete-first’, National Sports Federations (NSFs) have been advocated to issue certificates to athletes via DigiLocker, an initiative of @GoI_MeitY. This decision has been taken to ensure the accessibility, security and veracity of documents and promote transparency and efficiency in the sports administration of the NSFs. This will further lead to ease of living for our sportspersons across the nation,” he said.

 

“I humbly request all the concerned NSFs to embrace the technological advancements and assure them of the full support needed for a smooth and timely transition,” he added.

 

The minister initially announced his strategy to streamline processes for athletes and National Sports Federations (NSFs) on August 29 last year, which coincided with National Sports Day.

 

During the event, the NSF portal was inaugurated to enhance operational efficiency and promote good governance.

 

This platform serves as a consolidated single point for handling annual renewals and elections within NSFs.
