Former football player Langam Chaoba Devi set to take over as India’s national women’s head coach

All India Football Federation’s Technical Committee has recommended former player Langam Chaoba Devi's name for the head coach post for the senior women’s national team.

Former player Langam Chaoba Devi is set to assume the role of the national women’s football coach. I M Vijayan-led AIFF technical committee recommended Langam Chaoba Devi’s name for the head coach position on April 24. Notably, the 51-year-old Devi captained the Indian team during the Asian Championships in the Philippines. She had also served as an assistant coach for the national side. Apart from this, she also represented India in the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games.  

 

“After extensive deliberations, the committee recommended Ms. Langam Chaoba Devi as the head coach of the Indian senior women’s national team,” the All India Football Federation (AIFF) said in a statement.

 

 

Devi is the only female coach from the northeast region with an AFC ‘A’ License coaching badge. The AIFF executive committee will approve the pending appointment in its upcoming meeting.

Committee meeting held virtually by Vijayan

The virtual technical committee meeting was chaired by Vijayan and was attended by Pinky Bompal Magar, Shabbir Ali, Victor Amalraj, Santosh Singh, and Climax Lawrence. The Technical Director of AIFF Syed Sabir Pasha was also present at the meeting. The committee also recommended Priya PV and Ronibala Chanu as the assistant and goalkeeping coaches respectively for the team. All three coaches recommended by the Technical Committee served during the Turkish Women’s Cup in Alanya, Turkey, in February this year.

 

Former player Ishfaq Ahmed was also proposed as the head coach of the U16 team with Yan Cheng Law as assistant coach and Mohammed Zakeer Hussain as goalkeeping coach.

The committee deliberated on coaching appointments for the men's U-16 and U-19 teams. After reviewing the received applications, the following names were recommended:

 

For the U16 Men's National Team:

Head Coach: Ishfaq Ahmed
Assistant Coach: Yan Cheng Law

Goalkeeping Coach: Mohammed Zakeer Hussain

 

For the U19 Men’s National Team:

Head Coach: Ranjan Chaudhuri
Goalkeeping Coach: Sandip Nandy
