Sweden midfielder Kristoffer Olsson has been rushed to the hospital due to a sudden brain ailment after fainting at his residence, as revealed by his Danish club FC Midtjylland on February 27. Olsson, who is 28 years old, is currently on a ventilator at Aarhus University Hospital, where Denmark's leading medical experts are working to diagnose his condition and start the necessary treatment.

According to FC Midtjylland, Olsson lost consciousness on February 27 and was promptly admitted to the hospital. He is currently being supported by his close family members and FC Midtjylland staff during this challenging time.

 

"In view of the increasing rumours and speculation that are circulating about the reason for Kristoffer Olsson's absence in the recent period, we are forced to make this announcement to the public. The 28-year-old Swedish international lost consciousness in his home on Tuesday 20 February and was transferred to Aarhus University Hospital, where he has been admitted and on a ventilator," Midtjylland said in a statement on their official website.

Olsson hospitalised with acute brain condition

 

Midtjylland stated that they felt compelled to share information about Olsson due to the growing rumours surrounding his absence from the team. Olsson, who has earned 47 caps for Sweden, most recently played against Estonia in November. He returned to Midtjylland in 2022 after stints with Anderlecht in Belgium, Krasnodar in Russia, AIK in Sweden, and the youth teams of Arsenal in England.

 

"Kristoffer Olsson is affected by an apparently acute disease related to the brain, which is not caused by self-harm of any kind, nor is the cause due to external factors. A team of Denmark's leading medical experts is currently working hard to make a diagnosis and initiate the right treatment." Midtjylland called for "respect and understanding" and added: "Everyone at FC Midtjylland is of course deeply affected by Kristoffer's sudden illness and our thoughts and full support go to Kristoffer and his family."

Arsenal extended their best wishes for Olsson's swift recovery on social media. Olsson, who boasts 47 international caps, joined Arsenal from Swedish club Norrkoping at 16 and made a solitary senior appearance as a substitute against West Bromwich Albion in the League Cup. Currently, he is in his second stint with Midtjylland, having previously played for AIK, Krasnodar, and Anderlecht.
