Carlos Alcaraz scripts history, rocks World no.1 Jannik Sinner to storm into French Open final and become youngest tennis star to achieve this feat

Spanish prodigy Carlos Alcaraz, seeded third in the tournament, booked his place in his maiden Grand Slam final with a thrilling five-set victory over Jannik Sinner in the French Open semifinals. Alcarfaz came from behind to clinch a 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over World no.1 Sinner at Philippe-Chatrier. The epic encounter at Court Philippe-Chatrier on June 7th lasted a grueling 4 hours and 9 minutes, showcasing the immense talent of both young stars. 

Alcaraz Storms into French Open Final After Epic Semifinal Battle

The 21-year-old Spanish tennis sensation etched his name in history books, becoming the youngest player in the Open Era to reach Grand Slam finals on all three surfaces – hard, grass, and clay. This historic achievement came after his dramatic five-set victory over Jannik Sinner in the Roland Garros semifinals.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Alcaraz. Last year, his Roland Garros dreams were dashed by the legendary Novak Djokovic, who is absent this year due to a knee injury. Determined to avoid a repeat, Alcaraz seized this opportunity and delivered a dominant performance.

The 21-year-old Spaniard now holds the record for the youngest ever World No. 1, and his French Open triumph adds another impressive feat to his name. He becomes the second-youngest men's singles finalist at Roland Garros since the year 2000, trailing only the iconic Rafael Nadal (who was surprisingly eliminated in the first round).  This win also makes Alcaraz the youngest player to reach a Grand Slam final across all four tournaments, surpassing legends like Andre Agassi, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, and Jim Courier, who all achieved this feat at the age of 22.

The anticipation now builds as Alcaraz awaits his opponent in the final. The winner of the ongoing semifinal between Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud will have the daunting task of facing the in-form Spaniard.

Alcaraz Stages Epic Comeback
 

The opening set belonged to the 22-year-old Sinner, who showcased aggressive, controlled play. He asserted his dominance early, securing a double break to lead 3-0. Sinner capitalized on his momentum, closing out the set comfortably in just 40 minutes. Despite a brief fightback from Alcaraz with a break back later in the set, Sinner managed to hold off the Spaniard's comeback attempt.

The French Open semifinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner was a rollercoaster ride of momentum swings and captivating rallies.

After a dominant performance by Sinner in the first set, where he secured an early double break and closed it out comfortably, Alcaraz began to chip away in the second. Sinner grabbed an early break once again, but Alcaraz responded with a powerful display, winning four consecutive games with two breaks of serve to level the match. The seesaw battle continued as Sinner found his rhythm again in the third set, claiming crucial breaks to take the lead. However, Alcaraz refused to falter. In the fourth set, he showcased his best tennis, not only securing a break but holding serve flawlessly, forcing a deciding fifth set. The drama intensified in the final set. Alcaraz struck first with an early break, pushing Sinner on the defensive. The Italian displayed grit, saving a match point at 4-5, 30-40, but Alcaraz persevered. He earned another match point, which Sinner saved, but an unforced error on the next point finally ended the contest in Alcaraz's favor.
